Cape Verdians hate to be called Africans. Although they share the same skin color, poverty and big firm butts, they choose to believe that they are a different (reads "superior") race than their fellow Africans. To be fair to them, on a very superficial level, they are funkier. Walking around in their low cut capris and halter necks, they do give off a more western feel, coupled with the island philosophy "thou must wear flip flops at all times", Cabo Verde is indeed a little different than the rest of Africa.
